In 1990 singer Bette Midler recorded a Grammy award winning song titled "From A Distance". The song's lyrics tell us that "God is watching us...from a distance."

If you are anything like me then at times when you pray it seems God is so close you can reach out and touch Him. Then at other times, like me, you may feel that God is far "in the distance" and our prayers have no power.

It is helpful to me, and hopefully it is to you, to visualize in my minds eye so to speak how the process of prayer works. I mean if  you and I could visualize where our prayers to our Heavenly Father end up once we have spoken them from our mouths, I think our prayers would have more power! By getting a clear picture in my own mind about the process of prayer I notice I have greater confidence, yes FAITH, that God really is intently listening to me.

So then, just "where in the world' do our prayers end up and how do they arrive there?   There's good news. The Bible tells us!

Our prayers end up in Heaven in the form of "petitions" presented to God on our behalf by none other than Jesus Himself! That's why scriptures tell us Jesus is our advocate.

In fact, in Heaven there is, in addition to “many mansions” and other cool things, an actual courtroom kind of place. It is in this Heavenly Courtroom that Jesus appears on the Christian believer's behalf, as our advocate or attorney.

Check out these scriptures.

Listen in silence before me, you lands beyond the sea. Bring your strongest arguments. Come now and speak. The court is ready for your case.
  Isaiah 41:1 NLT

One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the Lord, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them.  “Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan.

Satan answered the Lord, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.”  Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”

Satan replied to the Lord, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God.  You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is!  But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

“All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence [Satan left the courtroom].
Job 1:6-12 NLT

So you see, these scriptures and others not mentioned here, describe for us a place where our prayers and petitions are literally being heard by God Himself! It's a place you have probably heard of-Heaven. And in Heaven right now, even as you are reading this, there is a courtroom and court is in session, and it is always 24/7.

Oh yeah, there's more great news!  We don't have to represent ourselves or act "pro se" in God's courtroom in Heaven. That's because the Judge loves us so much that the Judge gave us our own attorney, our advocate, who is pleading our cases and presenting out petitions before God on our behalf. "We have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. " (1 John 2:1 NLT) Our attorney is the best ever and forever. And we have a tremendous advantage over our opposition (the devil-the accuser of the brethren) because our attorney is the Judge's son!
In closing, may I ask if you have retained the Supreme Judge's son Jesus to represent you in the courtroom in Heaven. Please don't keep representing yourself. Your opponent Satan is daily presenting his own arguments to God our Judge as to why today should be our last.

Satan as your accuser (prosecutor), keeps bringing before our God charges against you and me day and night!
Revelation 12:10 AMP

And, "there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus!"

            1 Timothy 2:5 NLT

Jesus wants to be your attorney today! He was hung on a cross, died, rose again and today is live and well. He has hung out his "advocate for the lost" sign in every city and heart His Father the Judge created. You can retain Jesus today.
